Hi guys,

To anyone heading to Poker in the Park tomorrow, I will be doing a talk in the lecture marquee at 1.30pm Friday.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one on the line-up still shy of $1,000,000 in career earnings. I could do with some support.

If anyone wants to come along and fill some seats/cheer/clap/boo/heckle I'd very much appreciate it.

Come along and show the blackbelt love!

Cheers

Why are winners at ipoker who play the same stakes and also similar number of hands than those at star and full Tilt seem to be winning at less than half the amount of the two big sites?

If you are wondering what i am talking about have a look at the .25/50 nlhe stats for all three sites for this year and do some comparisons.

Some interesting figures when you look at them but i can't for the life of me think of a reason why.

I have no idea why this would be the case and would be interested on peoples thoughts as to why this might be.

Looked it up. Rake structures for 6max - FR nl:

iPoker: 20nl - 50nl: 1c for every 20c in pot, $3 cap.
Stars: 25nl: 1c for every 20c in pot, $2 cap. 50nl: 5c for every $1 in pot, $3 cap.
FTP: 25nl: 1c for every 20c in pot, $3 cap. 50nl: 5c for every $1 in pot, $3 cap.

Make of that what you will.

On the Entraction network (noiq) below the cards you get the amount you will win, and just below the tray of chips you see the full pot size, seems to be 1c per 20c.

1st Ever Dojo report........... (Hold em Manager).

Just finished the first Dojo session with Adam Latimer, with a guest appearance from Owen Robinson. Firstly I would like to say how great these are going to be, at first I picked a few that I thought I would be interested but now at only 300 points each I am planning to do as many as I can...
Adam is a really great teacher and quickly picks up on your level of thinking and is able to explain things so that you can easily understand them and is happy to go over anything that you don’t...

On the subject of Hold em Manager one thing that Adam said is that, its almost cheating and if these Stats weren’t available to everyone I’m sure it would be would be, if you choose not to use them then its probably the most -EV decision you are making !!
If like me you have tried them in the past but you have been unable to understand the stats so either you cant use them or misinterpret them, then i would highly recommend this dojo, which i believe will be running every month for a while, as once you do you will not see how you ever played without them....

I would like to thank Adam and Owen for a really great session which im sure will really improve my game no end....

Just when you thought you could not get any more value from BBP they pull this out the bag, All I can say is well done Adam and everyone else involved in this, a truly great addition!!!

Just had a listen to the 'Cash Plays' podcast from Dueces Cracked and they were talking about expected win rates as a PTBB per 100 being about .3 for a limit player. With exceptional players looking at PTBB's of about 1.5.
As I understand it PTBB's stand for poker tracker big blinds per 100 which they say is used by most pro's and compared to normal tracking software it is about half????

My question is approximately how many BB's per 100 is a good rate to be running at as a no limit player, and over what size of sample are these being measured.

I would be more than happy for mine just to be green LOL

If any of you out there would like to share their BB per 100 stat mine at present is -2.49 over a sample size of 9000 hands.

This is averaged across all of the levels I have played at over the past few months some limits I am positive and some I am negative.

Joe Roberts posted on 2 Sep, 10:26am
Yeah ONE PTBB is TWO big blinds in NLHE, fwiw. Normally, BB/100 (upper case) refers to Pokertracker Big Bets, whereas bb/100 (used in HEM) refers to regular big blinds.

If you're using HEM, it defaults to regular big blinds/100 as the unit for win rate, although you can easily change this if you want to.

I have a million hand+ db for stakes between nl20 and nl100 on iPoker, in which 84 players have played over 10k hands, with a median win rate of -1 PTBB/100. Most winners are between 0-4 bb/100, and the highest I have with over 10k hands is at 16.5 bb/100. However, even amongst those with a 10k+ sample, only 30/84 beat the game without rakeback. It's surprising how many players who put in volume at SSNL are actually breakeven-losing players.

The biggest winner at 50 nl on ipoker this year in terms of $ is less than $8000 according to PTR. Whereas at full tilt and Stars the biggest winners at these stakes are twice that amount or triple,

Some have played many more hands on stars and FullTilt but when you look at similar anmount of hands played for players ipoker winners win less; Odd to me.

Poker CV - Putting Poker on Your Resume?
Dangers or benefits of poker resume. Would you ever put poker on your resume when applying for a new job? This has been discussed from time to time and it seems to be a touchy subject with opinions leaning more towards don't do it.

I've seen a stock trading company mention that they would consider poker in CV as a plus, since poker players have learned to not be so emotionally attached to the money involved and therefore make better judgments.

When, if ever, would you consider putting poker on your resume?

Thoughts ???

IMO think the point about if your trying to attract the Trading side of things where your dealing in copious amounts of $ and being able to adjust and not be phased when things dont go your way..

Sitandgoplanet.com have recently introduced a new guide to replace their previous 'Comedy of Errors'. The guide is completely free and claims to be the '$16 per hour SNG formula'.

Alongside some work on my post-flop game, through an upcoming sweat session with Adam Latimer, I am going to work through poker course and report back on my progress and results.

I have felt just recently that my game has gotten a little stale and that, due to the nature of playing SNG Turbos, I pay little attention to the tendencies of my opponents.

I am also probably not making the correct ICM decisions as often as I should be to maximise my returns, so am going to trial SitNGo Wizard and ensure I spend some time post-session looking back at my play. I will also post a hand on the boards here for discussion, as appropriate.

This is the first phase of making a serious attempt at improving my game. I have an eye on playing in some of the local live tournaments and weekly casino games, where I believe there is some 'easy' money. I want to make sure I am giving as much to my game as I can over the next few weeks.

I hope that I can get a few followers and can post some positive results and an interesting read for you.

Just to give you a starting point, over the last year or so I have posted 615 SNGs on FullTilt and now ipoker, with an average stake of $5-$6 (as I have recently started playing the $10 games on ipoker). I have made $289 profit - an ROI of approx 9.5% . My sharkscope ability is 63/100 over this period.

Whether realistic or not (I believe it is), I was hoping to hit an ROI of 20% at these games - so there is definitely room for improvement.

Mark (VBlueBBP) Varela posted on 2 Sep, 3:02pm
Another 2 weeks have passed since my last main update, so I will start with Week 4 of the Blueprint Guide, which I have just finished reading and highlighting today.

This final section builds on the solid foundations of the 3 earlier sections - early and mid stage play, ICM, and the multi-tabling guide - and in entitled 'The Booster'. The purpose here is to teach tactics to exploit your opponents and increase your edge.

The early chapters discuss the effect on ROI of playing other winning regs vs avoiding those same players and again visits where the most profitable fishing can be enjoyed.

Going back to note-taking, it is advocated to start to build your notes on your opponents even just on a couple of winning players each session.

We then move into the fine-tuning of early, mid-game, bubble, and heads-up strategy. There are 18 areas discussed and this is the real meat of this final part of the Blueprint. Topics include, as an example, continuation betting - discussing the various factors which can effect when to and when not to; number of opponents, bet-sizing, opponent tendencies, draw-heavy flops, and high-card flops. Each section is very detailed in its breakdown and looks at several angles. It is suggested that you introduce concepts one or two at a time to incrementally improve the edge that your game has. I may visit some of the other stratgies in this thread as I adopt them into my own game.

The final, and most relevant topic to me currently, is a brief look at psychology, downswings, and tilt. This leads me to my first confession in this post. In the last couple of weeks, since my 30-day SnG Wizard trial expired, I have stopped reviewing hands and just played. I know I am continuing to lose much more than my fair share of 50/50s, my dominated hands seem to lose 9/10 times, and after fighting back from an ROI of
-10% to -5%, I started to lose to 2 and 3 outers. But, I also need to explore
Posting trophy - more info coming soon ...
Mark (VBlueBBP) Varela posted on 2 Sep, 3:13pm
the other reasons behind my return to an ROI of -10%.

So, the first of two confessions. My intention to put in some time compiling a push/fold/call bubble chart fell by the wayside, my SnGWizard free trail expired and I stopped reviewing hands. I also stopped taking notes on opponents. So, I only have myself to blame for my own indiscipline (something I have never been good with) with maybe a little blame aimed at the Poker Gods?

Now is the time to make plans for the coming month, achieve those plans (I'm always better at the first part of this than the second), re-re-check that I am applying the basics consistently and start to adopt the strategies that will turn me into a strong winning player. I also require a drop in buy-in whilst I fight my way back to the $5 games and upwards. I will stay at 4-tables for this first week and will then add one at a time to get up to 8 within the month. I must also check out PokerProLabs free-trial and will report back on that.

Finally, I must also adopt the best appraoch to building my bankroll, so time to hunt out a few sites where I can benefit from some bonuses. I will, of course, return to BBP to play once I have cleared the bonuses on offer.
