Vic stalwart and 2008 Irish Open Champion Neil Channing offers a glimpse into the life of a poker pro as he travels the circuit in search of glory. Follow Sensei Channing as he jet-sets his way across the globe, rubs shoulders with the stars, and offers his amusing, but brutally honest view of a life on the road. Marvellous.

Bad Timing
Posted by Martin 'MJR719' Rice

Well… things have taken a turn. I had a pretty smooth five weeks and had no big downswings to speak of. Week Six has been different. I have 100 percent done my balls in the past three nights. On the wrong end of a lot of coolers and my timing is a bit off as a result. Part of me wants to take a day off and clear my head, but that isn’t an option with Black Belt London Live this weekend so I’m going to have to change approach tonight. My image is fairly cultivated so I figure I can try and grind a pretty low variance style and still get paid in spots so I’m going to resort to that. Fingers are crossed for some run good. My graph looks like it died.

On a plus side, really looking forward to the tournament this weekend. It’ll be nice to get back to playing live which I haven’t had the chance to do over the past few weeks. While I love the handiness of online poker, I just prefer live poker. I started playing live before making the transition to online, and the novelty value has not, and I hope never will, worn off. Field looks pretty tough as well, and the fact we start relatively deep means we get to have some good times and set up some fun plays. Pretty sure my girlfriend has forgotten what I look like over the past six weeks, so I think I will take a well deserved night off on Monday… maybe.

Glad Boyles are running a book for this also. I’m 0/5000000000 for backing people for these type of tournaments, so I took my time and picked six people I feel have a good chance and whose odds were a bit on the large side. Some really good players at 150’s so def some value to be had. Have a bet on a couple of other Graders so do not let me down guys! Think Ger and I have a bit of side action booked with Jamie as well, so hopefully that will lead to a good competitive battle.

I’m playing Saturday this week but I’ll prob head down for a while on Friday night for some railing (and anti-railing depending what bet the Graders decide) and a bit of craic. I’ll be at the bar saying goodbye to this week in the most reliable way possible so come and say hi and I’ll see all you guys there!

Just before I run off, I will say that it has been a great Grading to be a part of! Some good players and crackin’ people in the group and its all been played in the right spirit by everyone. Long, nervous wait until the 24th now, but we can all keep our fingers crossed and may the best people win!

Good luck everyone, happy grinding,
